Asian telecom giants partner on Philippine smart city blueprint

Globe Telecom and Ayala Corporation have formed a strategic partnership with Japan-based KDDI and Mitsubishi Corporation to conduct a joint study regarding intelligent city initiatives in Makati City, Philippines. The four companies signed a memorandum of understanding to explore how digital technologies and urban infrastructure can be integrated to enhance local governance and resident services. This collaboration aims to leverage the technical expertise of the Japanese entities alongside the extensive domestic infrastructure of the Filipino partners.

The initiative focuses on transforming Makati City into a hub for smart city innovation by addressing common urban challenges such as traffic congestion and energy efficiency. The partners plan to examine various use cases including automated traffic management systems, smart lighting, and data-driven public safety measures. By utilising high-speed connectivity provided by Globe Telecom and the real estate development experience of Ayala, the project seeks to establish a replicable blueprint for modern urban living in the region.

KDDI and Mitsubishi Corporation bring significant international experience in smart city deployments to the project, having worked on similar digital transformations in other markets. Their role involves providing technical consultations and sharing best practices on how to manage large-scale data platforms that support urban operations.
