NTT launches $500M fund to boost global IOWN adoption

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation has established a new cross-border investment vehicle valued at 500 million US dollars to accelerate the global adoption and commercialisation of its Innovative Optical and Wireless Network technology. The initiative, officially named the IOWN AI Fund, is designed to support the growth of an ecosystem centred on power-saving optical communications as the demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to rise. This strategic move aligns with the group’s broader vision to transform existing network architectures into high-capacity, low-latency systems capable of handling massive data processing requirements.

The primary objective of the fund is to invest in companies that are developing technologies and services compatible with the IOWN specifications. By providing financial backing to innovative startups and established firms, the Japanese telecommunications giant intends to lower the barriers to entry for all-photonic network solutions.
