Samsung Debuts Galaxy A27 5G with Higher Price Tag and Mixed Performance Changes

June 27, 2026

Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy A27 5G, the latest entry in its affordable smartphone lineup. Moving away from the pricing of its predecessor, the Galaxy A26, the new model enters the market at $349, representing a $50 increase. While the device introduces several technological advancements, it also features notable regressions in physical durability and camera specifications that may impact the user experience.

The hardware heart of the A27 5G has been transitioned from Samsung's proprietary Exynos silicon to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. This change yields a performance gain of roughly 10% to 20% and offers improved graphical capabilities for gaming. The visual experience remains anchored by a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen featuring a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the aesthetics have been modernized; the outdated teardrop-style notch has been replaced by a punch-hole camera design, accompanied by thinner borders around the display. Buyers can select from three hardware tiers, including a base 6GB RAM/128GB storage model, an 8GB RAM/128GB version, and a top-tier 8GB RAM/256GB variant.

Software enhancements focus heavily on artificial intelligence. The device now supports advanced Circle to Search functions for multiple objects, improved image editing via Object Eraser, and a Voice Recorder capable of translating 22 languages in real-time. Samsung also maintains its industry-leading commitment to longevity by promising six years of both operating system and security updates.

Despite these gains, the A27 5G sees a reduction in build quality and photographic hardware. The most significant change is the protection rating; the previous model’s IP67 water resistance, which allowed for full immersion, has been replaced with an IP64 rating that only protects against dust and splashes. Furthermore, the ultrawide camera has been reduced from 8MP to 5MP, and the front-facing sensor has dropped from 13MP to 12MP, though the primary 50MP lens with OIS remains intact. The body is also marginally thicker, measuring 7.8mm. The international launch is scheduled for July 3, with the United States release following on July 14.
