Telefónica Earns Top Global Ranking for Industrial Internet of Things Solutions

July 29, 2026

GlobalData has once again identified Telefónica as a primary international authority within the Internet of Things sector. In the latest edition of the Global Industrial IoT Services: Competitive Landscape Assessment, the research firm evaluated the maturity and reach of the world’s most prominent technology providers. The findings emphasize the company’s proficiency in delivering specialized applications and its deep understanding of various industrial sectors, which allows for the successful integration of advanced digital tools into existing business structures.

Central to the company's success is its proprietary Kite platform. This cloud-based software allows enterprises to exert real-time control over their connected hardware, facilitating remote monitoring and utilizing artificial intelligence to identify irregular patterns. The analysis by GlobalData suggests that the provider’s strength lies in a holistic approach that merges telecommunications network expertise with cutting-edge data science, including machine learning. By doing so, the company assists organizations in extracting actionable intelligence from the massive amounts of data generated by interconnected devices.

Technical innovation remains a key driver for the firm's market standing. It has made significant strides in expanding connectivity to isolated locations and maritime zones through the integration of 5G New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks. Additionally, the company has implemented large-scale infrastructure projects for public utilities and local governments, such as the deployment of intelligent street lighting and smart water meters utilizing Narrowband IoT technology. These initiatives reflect a broader strategy to modernize public services through digitalization.

In a recent technological advancement, the firm partnered with Thales to introduce an eSIM solution compliant with the GSMA’s SGP.32 standard. This development allows businesses to manage multiple operator profiles on a single card, enabling them to switch between service providers remotely via the Kite interface depending on their geographic requirements. Darío Cesena, who leads the IoT division at Telefónica Tech, noted that the recognition from GlobalData validates the company’s efforts to serve as a primary bridge between modern digital technologies and the various needs of citizens, private companies, and public institutions.
